Unspoken Pillow Talk

Almost everyday for the past few weeks this happens. It is a little unspoken pillow placement war that Luke & I have going. I prefer the top option, while Luke is a fan of the bottom. I'm not so sure that Luke is aware of it, but every time he comes home or is in our lounge room, he will automatically rearrange the scatter cushions side by side and I will put them back later on. I find it too amusing to be bothered by, or bring it up with Luke as I would like to see how long it takes him to realise that I do actually put the sugar skull in front on purpose!

Sets-Of-Things Anxiety

Many moons ago I couldn't stand the idea of not having a set of plates all the same. In one instance, Luke broke a plate out of one of our dinner sets that I couldn't replace, so I replaced the whole set because it did my head in. Things like that used to really bother me unnecessarily. And it wasn't until our last move that I started to ease up after I developed a case of the dropsies during my pregnancy. I don't like to make changes to our dinning wares unless we're moving or changing absolutely everything up in our house, and a couple of months ago Luke & I decided to do both. When we moved into our current house we decided we wanted to fill our house with lots of mis matching things with pops of colour. Ordinarily Luke likes wooden furniture, and I like all white things so our compromise was colours and it has been a lot easier on all fronts. I don't need to over think purchases and take 15 minutes to decide whether our place mats will match our dinning set, or get sets-of-things anxiety about a plate breaking. I received lots of neat little side plates from long forgotten tea sets that my sister picked up at op-shops for my baby shower earlier in the year. Its nice having things like pizza and toast off dainty floral plates everyday. When I have finished a couple of other illustrative and nesting projects I intend on adding to my collection.

Recent Purchases / After A Trip To Freedom

Before Romy arrived I had plans to do some nesting in our new home, and wanted to focus on our living room in particular. I had been eyeing off the Stockholm Coffee Table at Freedom for a couple of weeks and really wanted to buy it but wanted Luke to see it in person first. The coffee table we have currently has really sharp corners and aside from them being a future hazard for Romy - Luke & I are always banging our knees and shins on it. Luke isn't the biggest fan of white furniture, so we looked in other furniture stores and op shops for a round wooden coffee table with no luck. Before Luke could go out to Freedom to see the coffee table I wanted, Romy came early and our purchase was put on hold up until this week. Now that I'm feeling a lot better we've been making little trips to the shops to get back on track with our nesting project. Not only did Luke give the thumbs up to the coffee table, but Freedom was having a store wide sale. When I saw that everything I wanted was in store and marked down I was so excited I felt a little light headed! Although the focus was things for the living room, I bought the dipped vessels to put on our bookshelf in our bedroom, and the mademoiselle scatter cushion for Romy's room. I've been assigning myself little day jobs this week as a distraction so I won't go back out to Freedom and buy an unnecessary amount of scatter cushions and shelf fillers!

Recent Purchases

In the last two weeks I had a mini break from blogging, but I didn't have a break from going to the shops! These are a couple of my recent colourful purchases. I really can't remember what my life was like before the all types-of-cute store Typo. The first three pictures are my Typo purchases. In the main living area space of my flat I have a polo cube bookcase which is jam packed with books, and on top of the bookcase itself is decorated with these pretty magazine holders. And now on the side of the bookcase my new mini chalk board hangs. I've been wanting one of these for a while, and even though it could be bigger it will do for now. And the last of my Typo purchases were an 'oh deer!' stamp, a measuring tape so I can now safely purchase clothes online and a letter holder to neaten up the notebooks on my desk. One of the best things about having an iPhone, is picking out cute cases. I settled for these two, until I get the melting ice-cream case. The zig zag case was unbelievably cheap at just $2 from Dotti, where I also picked up this floral summer dress for $10. I'm really not much into this whole neon phases thats currently happening (mostly because neons don't suit me), but I thought this necklace looked fun.

A Quick Spring Picnic

Luke & I had such a perfect little day together on Monday. We were dressed, ready and out the door relatively early (for a day off) so we could have a little breakfast date at Lotus cafe. We've been meaning to cross that cafe off our list for some time, and now we can and know not to go back. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't what we were into. The food was lovely and super quick, so quick we received it within 5 minutes or ordering, but the coffee tasted a little stale as though the beans had been ground weeks before or something. After breakfast we went to some furniture stores in search of a decorative sitting chair. Our flat is really small, but we've come up with a way to change it up so we can fit a cute chair in. Our last stop was Freedom where we found the perfect lemongrass coloured chair. I never think to go into Freedom because it always looks a little too pretentious and expensive, but their current stock is just perfect. My sister is also in the process of redecorating so I'm hoping she'll go there to so the things I can't fit in my current flat, she might get for herself!

Once we found what we were looking for, we did a quick grocery shop, banked two months worth of coin collecting, did a quick tidy up and washed some clothes. Once all that was out of the way we packed some sandwiches + fruit, grabbed some coffees and went on a little picnic! We found the perfect little nook in the park to lay our picnic rug down and play cards on. The few times Luke & I have had days off together throughout the year, it's either rained or we've had to do other things and our picnics have been put on hold. So it was just the loveliest afternoon to be out in the park, laying down in the sun.

When we came home we decided to do some baking together, and we made the most delightful hazelnut cake. I'm going to post the recipe soon, because it would be absolutely selfish of me not to! And we finished our day off with some lasagne Luke made while I finished up on an illustration. It was extra delicious because my boss picked me a huge bunch of home grown organic silver beet from her veggie patch!

Recent Purchases

Perfume The Body Shop  Earrings Lovisa  Dress Glassons  Cushion Target

Last week when I went to the shops I noticed all the pretty Spring dresses and couldn't leave without one. The end of winter is the best time to stock up on cute dresses with sleeves. I don't like to wear sleeveless dresses, I like the t-shirt style dress and they're always so hard to find in the summer because everything is sleeveless or spaghetti strap. I picked this dress up at Glassons for $49.95, and couldn't be happier with it. I now have three dresses, all pretty similar, from Glassons. Theres nothing better than a dualistic dress. Well, I'm sure there is. Like all the new products at The Body Shop, especially their Japanese Cherry Blossom range.

I got through home ware phases, sometimes I'm particularly interested in them, and the rest of the time I'm focused on dresses or coffee table books. Lately I've been keeping my eyes open for unnecessary home wares and found myself coveting this stamp like anchor cushion from Target. And to my delight, it was marked down an extra six dollars to $20.95!I also picked up two pairs of earrings for $10 from Lovisa. I love big stud earrings but haven't had much luck finding any that I love enough to wear. I didn't realise how much I needed a pair of horse & heart earrings until I bought them!

The Importance Of Bedside Tables

For the past couple of weeks I've casually mentioned to Luke that I'd like to give our creamy white looking bedroom a little bit of a makeover. I've been coveting a particular bed cover from Urban Outfitters that started this obsession with changing things up, and started my new obsession - bedside tables. When we bought new furniture seven months ago, I couldn't wait to decorate our bedsides, but the interest wore thin after we had to wait seven weeks for them to arrive. By the time they came we settled on a ceramic lamp and a wood cut block letter to decorate our bedsides. The last couple of trips to the shops I've been keeping my eyes open for things to make our bedroom snappy and found a couple of neat things so far. I've been browsing pinterest for inspiration and ideas and found so many lovely bedsides. At least 70% of the pictures I've been drooling over feature a fresh vase of flowers, and as lovely as they are I just don't know how practical that is unless your husband is a florist or is constantly super sorry. When I find the particular wooden coat stand that I have in mind for the corner of our room, we'll change everything else.

Nails & New Things

Nails / New Dresses from Dotti / Hour Glass + Jar
I had the loveliest Friday today. I started off with a sleep in with Luke, and a quick tidy up before getting ready for the day. After Luke went off to work, I paid a bill, printed our Band Of Skulls tickets at the library, did some banking and got some coffee from my work. And then I went to the shops in search of a new hand bag that I just can't seem to find. I have something in mind, and always get distracted by all of the other pretty bags and never get what I actually want - a plain black envelope style satchel. After I couldn't find what I wanted I gave up on bags and bought some dresses from Dotti. The white + black dress has teeny polka dots all over, and the dark plum dress has lace diamond shape cut outs. Both dresses  are knee length, and both were on sale coming to a total of $29.95. My luck continued when I went to Target and picked up a large hour glass that was priced $25 and marked down to $9, and an old fashioned tall jar priced $13 and marked down to $6. Luke & I have decided to change up our bed room which is currently plain white and add some colour, so this lime green hour glass is perfect. And the jar will be great to fill up with things and sit on our bed sides.
When I got home I painted my nails in diagonal stripes using some new colours from the Australis range and made the most amazing toasted sandwich. When Luke came home for his break we went for a walk and got some afternoon coffees, and I visited my parents for the afternoon. It was such a pleasantly productive day!

The best kind of bowl

One of the best things about moving is unpacking things you forgot you had.
Like these adorable ice cream bowls!
My sister & I had some of these when we were little, they were pink & purple. I almost fell over when I found these in the shops almost a year ago. They're super cute to eat ice cream out of, its almost a novelty because I feel like I'm five again!
