Last year when I worked at a magazine in the advertising department, I would associate my days luck/success with whatever set of earrings I was wearing. I would hold certain pairs of earrings responsible for signing new clients, or losing them. It was totally ridiculous! So ridiculous that it became a little secret, and a regular thought pattern. Even though I no longer work for that magazine, I still maintain the same thought pattern that some earrings possess better days than others. And more recently, if I wear a 'good day' pair a couple of days in a row and my luck pattern doesn't follow suit, I'm convinced I've jinxed them temporarily. I am completely aware that is silly and ridiculous, I just can't seem to shake these thoughts. So much so that a couple of weeks ago I bought a pill box to organise my earrings so I wouldn't wear the same pair two days in a row. Even though the motive behind this comical, I've actually found this to be a practical solution to organising my earrings and keeping my current favourites in rotation.
I love this post. What a quirky little secret you just shared. So funny. I think we all have our own little superstitions. Like, if I don't have a written to-do list, my day is a complete mess. If I don't visually see what needs to be done and visually see things being crossed off, I basically run around accomplishing nothing. So, I know that I have to have a list and that list has to be organized or my day will be a complete write-off, which will later make me a grumpy Gus. People are weird. ;)
ReplyDeleteI actually really enjoyed this post, superstitions are great - even if they are a little odd sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, I know that you might think it sounds ridiculous, this whole accessory superstition of yours, but I used to have (DON'T LAUGH) an underwear superstition. I know, I know, that sounds crazy! But really. It literally seemed that any time I wore these certain undies I'd have a MAJORLY bad day. And I'm not talking a sucky day, but a really baaaad day. I noticed it because I really loved these undies. They were maroon lace with little bows - adorable! So anytime they were washed I wanted to wear them immediately and when I did, BAM, bad day. I ended up throwing them away! haha Okay, now I sound like a complete weirdo. :P
ReplyDeleteHaha! I have almost exactly the same thing! Only mine's not associated with certain pairs. The way it works for me, is I'll pick out a pair of panties and just get a "feeling" that if I wear these specific ones today, I'll have a bad day! Sometimes I get it with certain tops of mine too...
DeleteWah now I'm weird!!

I think we all have our funny little superstitions, I always think that if something goes wrong in the morning my whole day will go done hill too....which usually happens probably because I sabotage myself :) I think this is a really good way to organise your jewellery, i always wear the same earrings so might make me be more adventurous. Thanks so much for your sweet words on my blog!
ReplyDeleteHaha this is so sweet!! I love learning unique, and quirky new things about friends :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear more about your magazine position: what it was like? Why you left? etc.
(I'm sure you've probably written about this before, so feel free to just point me the way! - sorry!)
That's actually a great idea to keep your earrings organized! And everyone has superstitions and strange little quirks, I think it's so sweet you shared yours with us :) I think it takes the 'lucky underwear' concept to a whole new level!
ReplyDeletethat is a great idea, thanks for sharing!

That is hilarious and like you said, a little bit ridiculous, but it makes for a great story! The pill container is a great way to organize and space out your earrings so you don't wear the same ones everyday! :) This post made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteI used to do something like this too!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a really good idea to arrange your earrings like this. I really need to wear earrings more often. I have 10 ear piercings but never wear earrings!

This is such a clever idea! It's perfect, even for just planning your jewelry out ahead of time. I, personally, am slightly superstitious about outfits. I have plenty of lovely outfits that sit in my closet for one reason only: every time I wear them, my day doesn't go the way I'd like. It's funny how we develop these little habits. :)

Great post! What a fabulous way to organize your earrings - I think I'm going to use this trick next time I travel!
ReplyDeleteI should totally do this! I always tell myself I'm going to wear a different pair each day since I seem to have a gazillion, but then always end up with the same ones. Love your blog design, now following!

That's a really good idea for earring storage! And it's a good planning tool too hehe :) I use a similar way to organize all of my necklaces, I picked up one of those plastic organizing boxes and have each necklace in a little section. Great minds think alike!

This is awesome and VERY organized! x
ReplyDeletethis is actually pretty clever, lauren! i can't go out of the house not wearing a pair of earrings. i might organize them too like what you did. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this idea for organizing your earrings. My ears are stretched to 1/2" and once I get a collection of plugs my size, I think this would be a great idea to ensure that I mix it up every once in a while.
